Auburn outfielder Anfernee Grier was named a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award on Wednesday by USA Baseball.
The former Russell County Warrior had a big junior season for the Tigers, hitting .366 with 12 home runs and 41 RBI. He led the SEC in runs (56) and total bases (137), was second in conference in homers and hits (87) and was in the top ten in average and stolen bases (19, seventh best). He was named second team All-SEC and earned All-Defensive team honors for his stellar play in center.
In his career, Grier has 207 hits with 58 for extra bases and 72 RBI to go with a .466 slugging percentage.
