FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) -

Fort Benning has a new Armor Chief as Brigadier General John Kolasheski was welcomed at a special ceremony Friday evening becoming the 50th Chief of Armor at the Maneuver Center of Excellence.

Kolasheski was recently the Deputy Commanding General for the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas. He is no stranger to Fort Benning. Kolasheski served in 2007-2008 as a Squadron Commander during his duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

"I'm deeply honored to have this privilege of being the 50th Chief of Armor here at Ft Benning under the Maneuver Center of Excellence where we've merged you know both the armor school as well as the infantry school. I think it's created some great affect," said Brigadier General Kolasheski.

During the ceremony Friday evening, Kolasheski’s wife, daughters and father were also recognized and honored.
