COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Students were on hand for a community service day at Damascus Way and Children's Shelter.
There were 20 students from Virginia College who painted hallways in the kitchen and also planted flowers.
They also participated in children's activities, painting, organizing storage closets and cleaning.
Faculty and students doing the work say residents were very thankful for all of the hard work they did. One of the volunteers said it felt great to be able to help.
"They have been thankful since we hit the door. They are very grateful and receptive to us being here. I think we had made some friends," said Catlautretta Fitz-Patrick Williams with Virginia College.
This is all part of the companies 'National Community Service Day.'
More than 5,300 employees from around the nation took part in various communities.
