Man involved in barbershop owner’s murder sentenced

Demetrice Scott was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to rape and aggravated assault from a five week crime spree that included the 2012 murder of a Columbus barbershop owner. 

Scott was one of three men charged in the murder of Charlie Artis. 

He received 20 years for armed robbery and life with 25 years to serve and the possibility of parole on a rape charge. 

Scott pled not guilty to the murder. 

As a part of a plea deal with the State of Georgia, Scott agreed to testify against the other two defendants Dontevious Doleman and Edward Lee

He is required to register as a sex offender for life. He also has several other charges yet to be released.
