COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A veteran is recounting his experience in the Vietnam War in his new book.
Al Conetto signed copies of "The Hump" at the National Infantry Museum on Thursday.
In the book, Conetto wrote about what he went through as a part of the first Battalion 503rd Airborne Infantry in the first major battle of the Vietnam War.
The battle took place in November 1965, when Conetto was just 23 years old at the time.
He spoke with us about what he took away from being Vietnam.
"The major lesson I learned from Vietnam is don't commit troops to a war unless you are prepared to win it," Conetto said. "If you're not going to win it's a waste of money and waste of lives more importantly."
