EUFAULA, AL (WTVM) – Shots were fired at the Eufaula Police Department Complex on the 500 block of E Barbour St. Thursday evening around 9.
Two police cars were damaged in the incident, but no police personnel were injured.
A total of six shots were fired, and bullets struck the patrol cars and the police department building itself.
Eufaula Police Chief Steve Watkins says it could have been worse since it happened right when officers would be coming and going from the building.
Chief Watkins admits this ranks as the most bizarre crime he's ever investigated and as of right now can only speculate on a motive.
"Anything right now would be speculation," Chief Watkins said. "We had court yesterday, we had several instances in the city that could spark emotions in someone."
Chief Watkins says he plans to increase security such as improved lighting and more bulletproof windows.
This is an ongoing investigation and there is a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call the Eufaula Police Department at 334-687-1200.
