COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Eight teams played for the championship on Saturday for the 33rd annual Columbus Fort Benning Rugby Tournament.
During the summer the matches are seven minutes with seven players per half due to the heat. Teams consist of military and civilians.
"It's so much fun. A lot of people say it's tackling without pads. It can be kind of crazy with all concussion stuff in football. It's a much different kind of tackle. It's more wrestling take down," said Jeremy Bond, a rugby player.
The league is always looking for new players. They practice Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7 p.m. on the rugby field in Columbus on Blanchard Blvd.
