AL state troopers urge safety July 4th weekend

(WTVM) - Alabama troopers are stressing the importance of safe driving as we head into the holiday weekend.

They say there's a car crash in Alabama every four minutes, and nearly half involve people under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Doing your part to stay safe and drive defensively won't just prevent a ticket, but it could also save a life.

"I ask that people don't worry about well hey if I'm out here speeding I might get a ticket or a citation. That is true, but if you're out here speeding, you may end up having a crash. And you may end up changing your life, ending your life or changing and ending someone else's life," said Cpl. Jess Thornton with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Alabama troopers will have extra personnel on the roadways this holiday weekend.

If you would like to report any accidents, road hazards or suspected drunk drivers contact ALEA at (334) 242-4371.
