WEST POINT, GA (WTVM) – Good news for travelers driving along Interstate 85 near West Point. Renovation and retrofitting work on the Georgia Welcome Center is now complete and the Center is open again.
The West Point Welcome Center has been closed since December. During that renovation and beautification time, motorists had no access to the Georgia Welcome Center driveway, parking areas, or building.
Major renovations were completed at a cost of $1.4 million.
Rebecca Clopp, GA Visitors Information Center Manager says she is glad the doors are back open.
Clopp says, "Oh we were so excited. We have several marketing pieces for Georgia. The state Travel Guide is one of them, Georgia Eats Guide is also one of them. We also have 13 million visitors across the state at all our Georgia Visitors Centers. We're the front door to Georgia."
The West Point Welcome Center originally opened to the public in 1980.
