UPDATE: Suspect in West Point shooting death of teen in police custody

WEST POINT, GA (WTVM) – West Point police have confirmed that the suspect accused of shooting and killing his teen brother is now in police custody.

After an extensive investigation of the shooting that killed 17-year-old Juantae Harper, West Point police revealed that the offender was Carderius Harper, 22, the victim’s brother.

The shooting took place at Oak Terrace Apartments located at 700 Avenue E on Tuesday.

When officers arrived on the scene they found Juantae Harper with a gunshot wound and he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

According to law enforcement, Carderius Harper has spoken with investigators and he surrendered to police at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Carderius is now being housed in the Troup County Jail, and has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless conduct and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
