Accidents shut down portion of I-185 SB caused by oil spill

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Officials are still on the scene of several vehicle accidents that shut down a portion of I-185 Southbound in Columbus.

By 8:30 p.m., officials said there had been approximately 10-11 accidents.

We're told the accidents were caused by a large oil spill on the southbound side of I-185 between Manchester Expressway Exit 7 and Macon Road Exit 6.

The oil spill was caused by a dump truck hitting the guard rail, causing engine oil to leak from the truck.

One person was injured in the accidents with non-life-threatening injuries.

Sand trucks are being sent out for clean-up, and officials do not have an estimated time when clean-up will be finished. Officials are hoping to reopen the southbound lane in about two or three hours.

Officials have shut down I-185 Southbound from Manchester Expressway Exit 7 to Airport Thruway Exit 8.

If you are traveling on I-185, you will want to avoid this area at all costs.

We will update this story with more details as they become available.
