OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) - Angel Cabrera and Jhonattan Vegas shot 5-under 65 to take the lead after Thursday's opening round of the Barbasol Championship at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail's Grand National course.
Both Cabrera and Vegas posted bogey-free rounds, and both eagled the 13th hole en route to taking a one shot lead.
Auburn's Blayne Barber was one of seven golfers to post a 66 in the opening round. Barber is joined by Martin Laird, Shawn Stefani, Matt Bettencourt, Michael Kim, Ben Crane, and Lucas Lee.
Former Auburn Tiger Michael Johnson shot 67 (-4) in his first PGA Tour event since turning pro, while former Alabama All-American Robby Shelton carded a 68 in his second pro tournament.
Round two begins Friday morning at Grand National.
