COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - It was a celebration of life at the DaVita Victory Dialysis Center in Columbus on Tuesday.
The ceremony featured patients sharing their stories of how local doctors and staff have helped achieve victory over kidney disease.
Georgia Congressman Sanford Bishop was the keynote speaker at the event.
Workers at the facility were also recognized for their work with patients.
Congressman Bishop spoke about supporting legislation to help dialysis patients live a better life.
"It's vital we double our efforts to ensure federal initiatives benefitting patients with chronic kidney disease are not comprised," Congressman Bishop said. "That means continues support for CDC chronic disease program which has saved thousands of lives."
Following the ceremony, balloons were released as a symbol of thanks for dialyses healthcare support.
Chronic kidney disease is the eighth leading cause of death in the nation.
