COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Summer camps can get expensive, but one performing arts organization in Columbus is helping those who cannot afford it.
On Thursday night, the Springer Theatre Academy held a fundraiser event call the "Teacharet." It was started last year to raise funds for scholarships for children who may not have the means for the academy.
Teachers volunteered their time, songs, acts and dances putting on a show for the community and to raise funds for these kids.
"It sets us apart from just a bunch of teacher who are there for a paycheck, we're volunteering our time, we are putting in extra to make sure there are kids in the community and all over the southeast that can come to the academy if they want to come to the academy," said Springer Theatre Academy lead musical theater teacher Ixchel Samamiego.
Last year, they raised $2,500. Springer Theatre Academy leaders say a lot of students who weren't able to attend last year, were able to attend this year due to last year's funds.
