1944: Singer-songwriter Bobbie Gentry is born in Chickasaw County, Mississippi.

1958: Comedian and actor Bill Engvall is born in Galveston, Texas.

1974: By a vote of 27-11, the House Judiciary Committee recommends that President Richard M. Nixon be impeached and removed from office.

1981: Six-year old Adam Walsh is abducted while shopping with his mother in Hollywood, Florida. His decapitated body is later found near Abacoa, Florida.

1995: The Korean War Memorial is dedicated in Washington, D.C..

2003: Entertainer Bob Hope dies in Toluca Lake, California at age 100.
