HARRIS COUNTY, GA (WTVM) - Two members of the Harris County High School bass fishing team have earned a spot in the Bassmasters National Championship.

Cal Culpepper and Parker Marshall are joining a cast of big time high school anglers.
"I'm very excited,” Culpepper said. “My first nationals this is going to be great."

"It's probably one of the biggest things I've done so far," Marshall said.

Cal and Parker are one of only eight teams from Georgia to make it to Nationals. They qualified by placing in the top 32 spots at the state tournament in Lake Guntersville in Alabama. It only took four fish for them to make it.
“We actually didn’t even have our five fish limit, we had four fish which went for 16.5 pounds so…that was kind of good I guess,” Culpepper said. “We just happened to stumble upon some fish in the last 30 minutes. We caught three right quick and luckily they were the right size.”
With a trip to nationals comes pressure to succeed, but these two work well under pressure.
“We seem to do really good whenever we’re struggling,” Culpepper said. “We’re basically pressured to catch a fish seems to be when we do our best. At that last tournament, in the last 30 minutes we stumbled upon some fish and ended up doing really well.”
“I don’t know what it is…luck maybe, but always under pressure we do real good,” Marshall said.
So now it’s on to nationals. No doubt there will be some nerves.

“With this being the biggest tournament we’ve fished in there’s definitely going to be some excitement and some nervousness going on, but hopefully we’ll work through it and catch some fish,” Culpepper said.
It’ll still be a good time for these two, just ask Marshall.
“It’s the thing I love the most so how much better can it get?”
