Phenix City candidates face residents at forum

PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - Phenix City voters got a chance to voice their concerns about several issues facing the city on Monday night.

They brought their questions to Gaines Chapel A.M.E Church in Phenix City where candidates running for Mayor, "At Large" and Council Districts 1, 2 and 3 were there.

Some of the issues brought up during the forum touched on the future of Phenix City and how, if elected, they would improve race relations in the different communities.

"People need to know their candidates, there were so many times over the years in the past where they've voted for people and [haven't] saw their face at all, didn't even know the voices of the people, so we feel like we need to know who we are voting for, who we're putting in to represent us," said Mel Long, president of C.O.L.O.R.S. and Black Voices.

WTVM's Semone Doughton was the moderator for the forum, which was organized by Citizens for Unification, Revitalization and Economic Development or C.U.R.E.D.

The Municipal Election in Phenix City is Tuesday, Aug. 23.
