COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Dozens gathered earlier Thursday evening for the 16th annual "Tools for School" event in the Fountain City.

The event took place at the Columbus Public Library and was hosted by several organizations in the Valley, including our media partner Davis Broadcasting.

The annual event is held to distribute over 1,500 school supplies including notebooks, backpacks, binders and pencils for free to students in the tri-city area.

"It's important to always give back to the community,” said DJ Stone from Foxie 105. “Some people don't have much as the next person so we're going to make sure everybody is equal."

Davis Broadcasting decided to do this year's event a little different by giving supplies to students and parents in person instead of directly to the schools.

Organizers say that way, they were able to meet the kids and see their reactions.
