PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - An East Alabama boy who recently lost his soldier father to a debilitating disease was given a big surprise on Friday.

Logan Cagle is the winner of the WTVM Dreamroom Makeover Contest.

Logan, 9, of Phenix City, recently lost his father, Christopher Michael Cagle, in January to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's?disease, or ALS. Before he was diagnosed with ALS, his father served two tours in Iraq as a member of the U.S. Army, where he suffered some injuries and lost the use of his right arm.

His father was diagnosed with ALS in October 2013 and died on Jan. 6 at the age of 36.

Logan and his dad were inseparable and he helped take care of his dad during his illness. Despite the heartbreaking loss of his father, Logan has continued to keep his grade up, making A's and B's and earning a spot on the honor roll.

He enjoys playing baseball and basketball, playing outside with his friends and playing sports games on his Xbox.

As the winner of the dream room makeover contest, Logan will get a makeover of his game room.

Logan currently lives with his mother and grandmother in Phenix City.
