COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The film industry received some help Thursday, as they accept a big donation to fund a local festival.

The Way Down Film Festival was presented a $17,000 grant from the Knight Foundation Fund at the Springer Opera House in Columbus.

The foundation says they see the festival as a way to expand the creative culture of Columbus.

Those who put on the film festival say this donation is going to help local filmmakers and the film industry in the Valley.

"It's giving those filmmakers a voice and a platform so that they can be heard. Allowing our audiences to experience stories that they might not have been exposed to. So for the Knight Foundation Fund, we are so grateful,” said Stacy Cunningham, the Way Down Film Festival founder.

The festival takes place Oct. 21 and 22nd.
