AU students displaced after apartment complex remains closed

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - A few dozen Auburn University students and their families are dealing with moving problems at the newly constructed Balcony Complex off campus on Glenn Avenue.

Students were supposed to move in on Tuesday, but construction delays prevented the owners from obtaining their certificate of occupancy in time.

Co-owner Bryan Malone says crews are working around the clock to get his new tenants moved in by the end of the week.

Parents tell us they are satisfied the owners are doing everything they can.

"If this is the biggest thing life throws at us we are good, it's a good lesson for these young people as well," said parent Craig Ford. "They are working with us and we are working with them, so as long as that keeps happening we are good."

"Hopefully once they get in, they will love the layout, location and the finishes and they will forget all about this, we are doing everything we can to make that happen," Malone said.

Malone is paying for students to stay at a nearby hotel, renting them storage pods and is hiring moving crews to help students out for free.

The luxury apartments are located just minutes from downtown Auburn.
