AUBURN, AL (WTVM) – The Uber excitement comes just as two Alabama cities are getting the service. Both Auburn and Tuscaloosa are welcoming Uber just in time for the beginning of the fall semester and football season.

According to Uber, the app-based ride sharing service will launch on Thursday, Aug. 18 in both cities.

“Bringing Uber to these two college towns has been a priority for us, and we’re excited to be able to supply students with affordable, safe rides,” Uber said.

The launch date comes after the Auburn City Council voted to allow Uber back into the city on Aug. 2.

“The city council created a permanent home for Uber in Auburn, and we look forward to bringing safe, affordable transportation options and flexible work opportunities to the community," said Uber spokeswoman Evangeline George. "Access to a reliable ride at the push of a button will help empower students, residents and visitors alike to make safe choices at the end of a night out."

To celebrate the Tuscaloosa and Auburn launches, Uber is giving $15 off your first ride for new users. Here are the codes:

  • Auburn: WAREAGLE01
  • Tuscaloosa: ROLLUBER
