COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - It's a special honor for a man who's contributed much to his community, a man we're proud to say is a longtime employee here at News Leader 9.
Robert "Eddie" Bland now has a bridge in Lee County, AL named in his honor.
The marker for the replacement bridge which crosses over Osanippa Creek on Lee Road 375 was unveiled this week.
Eddie, who has been a photographer here at WTVM for more than 50 years, was humbled by the honor.
"Yeah I couldn't believe at the time when they was building the bridge took about four or five months to build, at the time it got through my wife took me down to the bridge and said oh by the way I think they are going to name the bridge after you. I said 'what?!'" Eddie said.
The Lee County Commission sited Eddie's support and contributions to the Beulah community over the years.
He has operated Bland's Discount Warehouse on Lee Road 375 for more than 30 years.
