AUBURN, AL (WTVM) – What is the secret to living and loving your best life? We may have found the answer when a true "Southern Gentlemen" and his spirited wife invited us into their Auburn home.
You'll be amazed at the extreme way he celebrated his 90th birthday!
Spirited, funny and oh so kind, you can't help but fall in love with Mr. and Mrs. Bill and Frances Dillard of Auburn. This month, Mr. Bill, with a wink and a smile, bungee jumped 240 feet over the Kentucky River to celebrate 9 decades of living.
"I thought shoot, why not at the age of 90," laughs Mr. Bill.
"We have faith in each other and we love each other. So, if he said he was going to jump out of an airplane tomorrow, I would say ooh, okay, I'm not going…but have fun," explained Frances Pick Dillard.
The couple credits daily exercise— nearly 3 hours of it in the morning for Mr. Bill, a good diet and the good Lord for their health.
"If you think about it, really gravity does most of the work with bungee jumping. My hero is this 85 year-old woman who wanted to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. She got the flu halfway up, but kept putting one foot in front of the other 'till she reached the summit," said Mr. Bill.
Married for 21 years, after they were both widowed, the couple finds great joy in their family, friends and world travels.
Mr. Bill says along with staying fit, the secret to living and loving your best life is to simply smile!
"I try to be happy...I try to keep a smile on my face...there is nothing like going into Wal-Mart and smiling at someone and giving them a lift."
We just had the best day with this amazing couple. Mr. Bill says he hasn't decided if he will bungee jump again, but if he does he will invite us along. Who knows, maybe we can jump with him!
We wish this incredible couple a great life!
