VALLEY, AL (WTVM) – A shooting and car wreck, that are connected, leaves one person dead in East Alabama.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office said the shooting happened in the 100 block of Lee Road 361 in Valley, AL on Lake Harding in northeast Lee County.
The 911 call came in around 3:27 pm CDT. Lee County deputies found 46-year-old Jay Allen Danford in a bedroom of the home with a gunshot wound to the head. The Lee County coroner pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Danford's body has been taken to the Alabama Dept. of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for autopsy.
Less than 3 hours later around 6:00 pm CDT, police responded to a single vehicle accident in Valley and found a 30-year-old man in the vehicle, which was owned by the shooting victim.
Lee County detectives say the person in the car is the suspect in this homicide, but he has not been arrested yet.
A handgun was recovered from the vehicle and the man driving was transported to the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika for injuries from the accident.
A preliminary investigation shows that the person found with the shooting victim's vehicle has been living at the victim's home in Valley.
