EUFAULA, AL (WTVM) -

A former Eufaula Municipal Court magistrate has been indicted on three felony charges after allegations she stole money from the city.

Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange announced the arrest Friday of 40-year-old Kimberly Smith, also known as Kimberly Thomas on charges of first-degree theft of more than $2,500 from the City of Eufaula.

Smith was also charged with felony violation of the state ethics law for allegedly using her public position for personal gain, and computer tampering.

Smith surrendered to agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation at the Barbour County Jail and was released on a $50,000 bond.

If convicted, Smith faces a maximum penalty of two to 20 years for each count.
