PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - Dozens of residents gathered at the Phenix City Amphitheater on Wednesday night to honor the memory of five people killed in a horrific car crash earlier this summer.
Thirty-two-year-old Carrie Jones, 58-year-old Judy Madere, 58-year-old Trudy Hebert, and two children ages 4 and 7 died in the July 18 wreck on Highway 80 near Crawford.
One woman, who lost her mother and aunt in the crash, publicly thanked the crowd for their support.
"It's a real blessing to see the community come out and support me and my family in this tragic time. And it feels really good to know that you've got that much support out of a community," said A.J. Thomas, relative of the victims.
The vigil included a candle lighting ceremony and a balloon release in honor of the victims.
