Suspects in Deonn Carter case appear in Superior Court

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The three suspects involved in the robbery and shooting of Deonn Carter in Columbus last month appeared in Superior Court on Thursday afternoon for a preliminary hearing.

Investigators say 17-year-old Tyquez Davis, 20-year-old Travarus Thomas, and 22-year-old Dequoyae Waldon are charged with murder in the case.

Carter was shot in the leg during a robbery outside his apartment on Aug. 9 and died unexpectedly 11 days later.

Stacy Jackson, the attorney representing Waldon, told WTVM an officer testified Thursday morning that Davis and Thomas said they were present at the time of the robbery, but not involved in the shooting.

According to Jackson, detectives also said both men identified another person as the shooter besides the three suspects in custody.

Later on Thursday, CPD arrested Quaimaine Thomas in connection to the shooting. Officials are still searching for 18-year-old Tauron Stepney.

Jackson also says testimony in court revealed records from Carter's cellphone, which was taken by the suspects the night he was shot, has been subpoenaed.

All three suspects plead not guilty. Waldon and his team also had four alibi witnesses testify.

There was no bond given for certain charges, but all remain in jail for the no bond policy for murder charges.
