CSU President responds to incident involving armed suspect on campus

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus State University President Dr. Chris Markwood has published an open letter to employees and students regarding last week's incident involving a search for an armed suspect on campus.

CSU issued a Cougar Alert to its students referring to an armed suspect on campus inside Clearview Hall on Wednesday, Aug. 31 around noon.

Residents were encouraged to stay in their dorms while CSU Police, the Columbus Police Department, and the Muscogee County Sheriff's Office conducted a systematic check of the building.

However, some media outlets erroneously reported there was "an active shooter" on campus. WTVM was not among those media outlets, and at no point in our reporting did we state there was an active shooter.
