COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Columbus mayor's office sponsored a blood drive at the Columbus Government Center in honor of the 15th anniversary of 9/11 this Sunday.
The event also honored the Columbus Firefighters Association and EMS.
There was a big turnout as Red Cross officials say they exceeded their goal of 25 pints.
Johnny Williams with Blood Services wants to remind people that it's important to give all the time.
"September is National Preparedness Month," Williams said. "Some of the unsung heroes of 9/11 are those who gave days and weeks prior to the event. Because all that blood was already on hand at the time the tragedy struck."
