A Columbus family will soon be able to move into their first home thanks to the efforts of several area churches and Brookstone School.

The “Building On Faith" groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday night for the new Habitat for Humanity home to be built on Montecello Drive in Columbus.

Pierce Chapel United Methodist Church, Midland United Methodist Church, Christ Community Church and First African Baptist Church are combining forces with Brookstone to help build the home and  improve the lives of this family of six.

“It is a blessing really, I think they are really excited they are talking about their own rooms and we never had a backyard before so they can go play in the back yard, so they are really excited. I mean I really feel the love, it’s really good. It’s a really good feeling," said home recipient Bermetria Erskine.

Erskine is a mother of four and says this is her family’s first home.

She and her husband applied for a Habitat for Humanity home back in 2014 and were notified two months ago that they had been selected for the program.
