PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - A Phenix City Police Department motorcycle officer is expected to make a recovery following an accident on Saturday.

According to PCPD, Sgt. Robert Lambert was involved in an accident while traveling north on Hwy. 431 near the Home Depot when he was rear-ended by another driver around 8:57 p.m. Lambert was a part of a police escort for the Tuskegee University football team after the White Water Classic.

Sgt. Lambert was turning left in an effort to break up an escort when he was hit by the driver, who was drunk. Sgt. Lambert was taken to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus and immediately taken into surgery.

Lambert is expected to recover from his injuries, but PCPD says doctors are working to save his left leg that was severely injured in the accident. Lambert also sustained other injuries from the accident that are also considered severe. His condition remains "guarded," police said.

Tracy Brown, 50, of LaGrange, GA, was arrested at the scene of the accident and transported to the Russell County Jail.  He is being charged with first-degree assault and DUI. Brown bonded out of jail on Monday.
