COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Several organizations and community leaders are recognizing the importance of clean and reliable water.

The "Imagine a Day Without Water" initiative kicked off on Thursday, Sept. 15.

The Value of Water Coalition is joining forces with more than 300 organizations across the county to raise awareness of what it means to cherish clean and safe water.

“Water is a valuable resource in our communities across the nation, we rely on it heavily for public health and also for the economy,” said Vic Burchfield with Columbus Water Works. “As you go about your normal course of business today if you can simply maybe think about an hour or so from your day, what would I do without water today.”

Value of Water Coalition says the average American uses more than 64,000 gallons of water a year.
