FORT MITCHELL, AL (WTVM) - The Russell County Sheriff's Office held a press conference on Sunday, Sept. 18 regarding a homicide in Fort Mitchell, AL.
On Saturday, Sept. 17 at 1:45 p.m., officials received a call for an unresponsive male on Stony Mill Lane.
Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor said in Sunday's press conference that Lisa Brown, the wife of 44-year-old Daniel Brown, was arrested for murder late Saturday night.
Sheriff Taylor says deputies were told that this was a suicide; further investigation uncovered that Lisa had killed her husband.
Officials say Lisa confessed to her husband's murder, and Sheriff Taylor said the couple was in the process of getting a divorce.
Sheriff Taylor says Daniel Brown was killed by a single gunshot wound to the head. Investigators believe he was moving out of the house this weekend.
Daniel was in the National Guard, and officials say he was well-known by the community.
Investigators say there was no sign of a physical altercation prior to Lisa Brown killing her husband.
Lisa made her first court appearance on Monday, Sept. 19. Her bond is set at $200,000 but has not bonded out of the Russell County Jail.
