FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) - Fort Benning announced to the public its schedule of a series of training exercises that will happen through the end of this week.
As part of a joint training collaboration with the Air Force, quarterly proficiency training of close air support operations will take place in the northeast quadrant of post tonight through Sept. 23.
Low-flying aircraft will fire 2.75 rockets and low-flying aircraft will drop 500-pound class training munitions.
Community members should expect to hear noise from the fast-moving, low-flying aircraft and the use of 2.75 rockets and 500-pound class bombs during hours between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The 500-pound bombs are training munitions that sound similar to the artillery fire that typically occurs on post.
"These operations are used to produce the invaluable and un-simulated training that Fort Benning's tenant units need to keep their highly honed combat skills sharp," the notice says.
