'Thaw the Freeze' debated, as the vote nears

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - In seven weeks, people in Columbus will head to the polls, not only to vote for President, but also to decide if they want to "thaw the freeze."

People learned more about the controversial property tax issue at a forum Tuesday night at the Columbus Citizens Service Center.

Leaders representing both sides fielded questions and debated at the event, hosted by the Muscogee County Democratic Party.

Those opposed to the thaw worry about their property taxes going up, while Mayor Teresa Tomlinson and others have argued this does not "lift the freeze" but it's only being retired for those who don't stay in their existing home.
