COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A local fundraiser is offering residents in the valley a chance to help out a good cause and beautify their yards.
Valley Rescue Mission's annual mum fundraiser in front of the shelter on 2nd Avenue is officially underway.
The shelter sold 57 on Thursday and will be selling more out front on Friday. All proceeds support shelters and recovery programs.
The mums are grown by men in recovery programs, which organizers say for them is more than just growing a plant.
"When they get their hands dirty they are nurturing something from the beginning," said Mitzi Oxford with Valley Rescue Mission. "They watch it grow and bloom, it's sort of like what is happening to them."
The mums are one for $11 or two for $20.
