Phenix City church ready for fall festivities

PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - We're less than a week into fall, but some farms and churches in the Valley are already gearing up for festivities.

Summerville United Methodist Church in Phenix City has more than 1,400 pumpkins almost ready for picking.

They'll be opening shop on Oct. 1 and have field trips and fun scheduled in the weeks leading up to Halloween.

Reverend Brady Baird says families can take part in the fun tradition of pumpkin picking, while cycling their money back into the community.

"Those ministries are the child supplemental nutrition program, which is Backpack Buddies, which serves kids in the Phenix City school systems, Valley Inter-Faith Promise, which houses homeless families, and Communities of Transformation, which offers families and individuals opportunities to break out of cycles of poverty," Rev. Baird said.

Other locations in the Valley are also gearing up for big fall celebrations.
