Holiday food assistance underway at Valley Rescue Mission

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – The annual sign-up for holiday food assistance and for Christmas toys is underway at the Valley Rescue Mission.

The Mission Chapel at the corner of 2nd Avenue and 29th Street will be open Monday through Friday for the next two weeks for families in need to register. The hours of operation are 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

Valley Rescue staff will also accommodate working parents who are unable to sign up during the week. Their sign up schedule is Saturday, Oct. 1 and Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Valley Rescue office at 2903 2nd Ave.

Parents who would like to register must bring proof of employment.

For food and toy assistance please bring:

  • Child's birth certificate
  • Proof of lack of income
  • Current utility bills including rent and mortgage
  • Grandparents must have proof of grandchild custody

Last year Valley Rescue Mission served 1000 Christmas meals and gave toys to 1,400 children in need.
