CHATTAHOOCHEE COUNTY, GA (WTVM)— One man has been arrested after having guns in front of the Chattahoochee County Middle/High School in Cusseta Thursday morning.
According to the Chattahoochee County School Superintendent Dr. David McCurry, a suspicious man was spotted in front of the school around 7:30 a.m.
A teacher notified a school resource officer and other school employees. The school was placed on a soft lockdown for about 30 minutes.
According to a school resource officer, Melvin John Shively was arrested and is being held in the Chattahoochee County Jail after he was found carrying two handguns on school grounds. According to Chattahoochee County Sheriff's deputies, no one was targeted or no harm was intended.
Shively faces charges of two counts of possession of a deadly weapon on school property, criminal trespass, and disrupting school operations.
Chattahoochee County Middle/High School is no longer on any type of lockdown and classes are going on as usual.
