TAYLOR COUNTY, GA (WTVM) – Many concerned parents and citizens showed up to a public meeting and session Thursday morning in Butler.
The meeting was held by the Taylor County Board of Education in protest of the Taylor County Schools System's decision to terminate the contract of its School Superintendent, Dr. Gary Gibson.
The Board held an Executive Session before meeting with the public to discuss the appointment of the interim superintendent to the permanent position of Superintendent.
There was also a question of ethics and nepotism since one board member is the father-in-law of the Principal at Taylor County High School.
The community argued that this particular board members vote should not count on any decisions made by the board
"It was 3 against 2 and it was just unfair- it was an unfair decision and the community should have been involved in what was going on because our kids are here. He (Dr. Gibson) has motivated our kids very much," Zella Peeples, a concerned parent says.
The Board must allow a 90-day grace period before making any permanent appointments.
