UPDATE: PCPD arrests man for driving stolen vehicle onto railroad tracks

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – The railroad near the Dillingham Street Bridge in Columbus is now closed after a man drove onto the tracks near Phenix City on Wednesday around midnight.

According to police, the vehicle was traveling from the Columbus side of the trestle and never made it to the Phenix City side. Phenix City police arrived and arrested 35-year-old Jeremy Ellis Francis Wednesday morning.

Francis was arrested for failing to appear (bringing stolen property into the state) warrant and placed in the Russell County Jail. 

The Norfolk Southern Rail Road Police and the Columbus Police Department were on the scene investigating. No other charges are expected by the PCPD on Francis at this time.
