COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The accolades continue for a Muscogee County Correctional officer being hailed as a hero for helping to save the life of an inmate at the Muscogee County Jail.
DeMarius McKelvey has been recognized by Columbus Regional Health as a "First Friday Hero." The program honors the lifesaving work of First Responders in our community.
McKelvey was one of three officers who sprang into action when they spotted an inmate struggling to breathe. Despite possible danger, McKelvey entered the cell and began CPR on the fallen inmate.
With the help of the two fellow officers, the inmate who suffered a heart attack, was revived and brought to Midtown Medical Center.
In August, Muscogee County Sheriff John Darr held a special ceremony recognizing all three corrections officers for their heroic actions. Columbus Regional plans to continue its #FirstFridayHero program monthly to recognize outstanding First Responders across the Valley.
