Classes resume Tuesday at Smiths Station High School after weekend flooding

SMITHS STATION, AL (WTVM) - Smiths Station High School students will return to class on Tuesday, Oct. 18 after a water pipe bust and major flooding over the weekend closed the school on Monday.

The school posted a list of alternate locations for certain classes on Monday afternoon.

We will have class tomorrow. Part of the 200A hallway will be closed. Students, if you are normally in the following teachers' classes, report to the locations listed below.

Madden's classes - report to room 306 (J. Lee's room)
Chancey's classes - report to the media center
Pickard's classes - report to the media center
D. Byrd's classes - report to 208B (upstairs computer lab)
Mathis's classes - report to 108B (downstairs computer lab)
Nelson's classes - report to the gym hospitality room
Gulsby's classes - report to 104B (Ferry's room)
Chappell's classes - report to 104B (Ferry's room)
Ferry's classes - report to 103A (Peter's room)

The FFA field trip to Moultrie will take place as planned tomorrow. Students should be on the bus line at 7 am EST. The other FFA trip (convention) is still on as planned as well.

At this point, school officials have not said how much of the school was flooded and the extent of the damage.
