UPDATE: Driver dies after dump truck overturns in pond on Uchee Creek Hwy.

RUSSELL COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - A dump truck has flipped into a pond located off Uchee Hill Highway on Monday.

Russell County EMA Director Bob Franklin confirmed the accident, which occurred Tuesday afternoon at the Grand Reserve and Lodge, located at 3945 Old Seale Road, also known as Uchee Hill Highway.

Franklin says a 3-man crew working with the dump truck was hauling dirt backed up to the pond when it overturned. The driver of the truck was stuck in the cab, where he drowned, according to Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry, Jr.

The driver has been identified as 65-year-old Arnold Kenneth Franklin Jr. of Smiths Station, AL. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:43 p.m. EST.

Sumbry said the cause of death appears to be an accidental drowning. His body will be sent for an autopsy on Wednesday to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.

A Russell County Dive team, who were on scene with other first responders, recovered the driver's body from the pond.
