COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – The suspect accused of killing a Columbus taxi cab driver earlier this week made his first appearance in court Saturday morning.

Twenty-year-old Dontavis Screws faced a judge in recorder’s court on murder charges for the first time since he was arrested for killing 50-year-old Dewayne Chronister.

No bond was given to the suspect and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 9 a.m.

The murder happened Monday morning at the Parkwood Mobile Home Park at 527 Farr Rd. in South Columbus.

The Muscogee County Coroner’s Office was never able to find any of Chronister’s relatives.
