SMITHS STATION, AL (WTVM) - Smiths Station High School students participated in Mock Election Day, which was held across Alabama on Tuesday.
This marks the 20th year Smith Station has taken part in the event.
Students in fourth through twelfth grade took the opportunity to voice their opinion in this year's presidential election.
Nearly 400 schools are participating in the mock elections.
"The whole state of Alabama is having a mock election today, and the kids are going to have the opportunity to vote," said Tracie Chancy, Social Studies Department chair. "They'll put it in the ballot box- get their 'I voted' sticker and go back to class, and then we're actually going to phone in our results to The Secretary of State's Office."
The event gives students an early opportunity to become familiar with the electoral process and generates awareness among Alabama's student population.
