COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Army leaders spotlighted growth, expansion and budget cuts during the "State of Fort Benning" meeting, hosted by the Columbus Chamber of Commerce.
Several state and local officials attended the event Tuesday at the Maneuver Center of Excellence.
Major General Eric Wesley spoke about the relationship between Fort Benning and the valley, along with being positioned for bringing a brigade back to Fort Benning after recent Army cutbacks,
"We know that there are times when you have to grow an Army and what we want to do is be postured for that," Maj. Gen. Wesley said. "We don't want to wait until the Army starts to grow to posture Fort Benning, so we're doing the things necessary now to do a tasks that we have to get accomplished to enable the return of a brigade when the army grows sometimes in the future."
After the meeting, the crowd attended a reception at the Columbus Trade Center.
