COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Local leaders were out Wednesday, encouraging residents to take advantage of early voting in Muscogee County.

Mayor Teresa Tomlinson, State Representative Carolyn Hugley and school board member Pat Hugley-Green encouraged everyone, especially women, to vote just before they each cast their own ballot at the City Services Center.

Tomlinson says no matter what your background, your voice matters in these elections.

“Who is running the government is extremely important and it doesn't run well if you don't have people that are qualified and thoughtful about the leadership they are providing. So whether you're a man or a woman it's important that you get out and vote because the decisions we make will affect all aspects of our lives,” Tomlinson said.

Early voting continues across Georgia through Friday, Nov. 4. Polls are open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
