COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Columbus Fire Department was on the scene battling a house fire Thursday afternoon on Forsyth Street.

Captain Jerome Rayford says a passerby called in the fire after seeing heavy smoke coming from the home. When firefighters arrived, he said the house was fully involved.

He also says the blaze from the house caused a nearby grass fire about 20 yards from the house. They were able to quickly contain both fires, but not before the vacant home was destroyed.

No one was injured in either fire.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for more details.
